Overview
EDTA Root Canal Chelating Solution 17%, 60 mL is an aqueous EDTA solution for endodontic procedures. It functions as a calcium-binding chelating agent to aid root canal preparation and removal of the smear layer from canal walls. Manufactured by Pulpdent. Buffered to a neutral pH.
Intended use
- Assists in cleaning root canals
- Smear layer management (removal of inorganic components)
- Facilitates root canal instrumentation with files and reamers
- Aids canal enlargement and shaping by decalcifying canal walls
- Prepares dentinal walls prior to subsequent obturation steps
How it works
EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) chelates calcium ions within the mineralized components of dentin. This chelation softens and helps remove inorganic material and opens dentinal tubules, making mechanical instrumentation and canal shaping more efficient.
Professional use notes
- Use by dental professionals only and according to the manufacturer’s instructions and the clinic’s endodontic protocol.
- Per manufacturer guidance, EDTA may be applied at the canal orifice using a suitable instrument (e.g., pellet or pipette), followed by instrumentation with files and reamers as usual; reapply as needed until the desired canal size is reached.
- EDTA 17% is not a substitute for all endodontic irrigants/disinfectants and is not a permanent root canal filling material.
- Avoid contact with non-target tissues; follow infection control procedures; store as indicated on the product label.
